Where To Go Strawberry Picking In New England + NY
Strawberry season is upon us, and there is no better place to get your strawberries than directly from the farm. This is an activity my kids love, and the fruit tastes so good and fresh. It’s honestly the perfect summer activity with the kiddos and a great teaching moment to show them where their food comes from.
When is Strawberry Season?
Strawberry Season is usually early June to early July. You can check your nearest farm to see when they are open for strawberry picking, as it varies by farm.
Tips:
SIGN UP FOR NEWSLETTERS.
Whatever farm you decide to visit, most of them have newsletters announcing which fruit is in season to pick. I would recommend subscribing to the newsletter of the farm of your choice so you can find the best time to book your tickets.
CHECK THE WEBSITE.
Even after signing up for newsletters, I would check the farm’s website on the day of or the night before to see the quality of the fruit (and whether they’d sold out). It can change day to day, so you don’t want to waste your time driving all the way out to the farm and have nothing to pick. Also, some farms require reservations beforehand, so it’s good to check this before you visit.
BYOB? (BRING YOUR OWN BASKET)
Every farm I’ve been to for picking provides you with your own container. You pay for the container and then fill it to your desire. They will not allow you to bring your own container.
WEAR PROTECTION.
Since we’re now getting into late Spring/Summer weather, it will most likely be hot. Make sure to wear sunscreen or a hat as you will be directly under the sun.
WEAR PRACTICAL SHOES.
Look at me, sharing advice I don’t follow. Don’t be like me, wear comfortable closed-toe shoes to protect your little piggies.
PACE YOURSELF.
Many of these farms have an entry fee and then charge per tulip or by weight, which can add up quickly. So make sure you're picking good-quality strawberries, and I recommend going a week or two into the season. If you go too late in the game, many of the strawberries will be overripe, and you will need to eat them all the same day.

Many of the farms also have food and attractions for kids, so you can make a whole day of it. It really is one of our favorite things to do as a family, and food straight from the farm is SO much better. If you’re not based in these areas, you can find “pick your own” farms in many places. I urge you to do a quick Google search to see if there is one near you. Enjoy!
