Tower Suites Reykjavik
If you don’t know by now, I LOVE Iceland. It’s one of our favorite countries to visit, and we were so glad to be back for the third time. (see my full Iceland Travel guide HERE) I love staying at different hotels, and on this trip, we had the pleasure of staying at Tower Suites Reykjavik. I always say, if you come to Iceland you don’t need to spend too much time in Reykjavik as it’s a beautiful city, but the real beauty of Iceland is outside of the city. With that said, spending a day or two in this capital is nice as it’s very walking-friendly, you will find lots of cute shops and yummy restaurants, and we just discovered this new gem of a hotel to stay in the City.
THE PROPERTY
Tower Suites Reykjavik is located right by the water, within walking distance of many attractions. It’s more in the city's financial district and is bustling during work hours and very quiet outside of that. The unique attribute of this property is that it has only 8 suites on the very top floor of a commercial building, and every suite has sweeping views of Reykjavik. You can see from the city all the way to the mountains. It’s a beautiful, unique view, since there aren’t many high-rises in the city. When you arrive on the 20th floor, you are greeted by a small reception area (only open until 8 pm) and a lobby with a gorgeous view and a lounge area where you can purchase snacks and drinks. If you check in after hours, as we did, they provide you with a virtual key so you can enter the building using your phone. I would email them if you are arriving later, so you can make sure everything is properly arranged. There is not much else to the hotel's common spaces. It doesn’t have many bells and whistles but its’s beautiful.
THE ROOM
As mentioned, all the rooms are suites, so you will have ample space and, of course, that beautiful view. Our room felt grand and spacious with high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows. On one side is a king bed, on the other is a pull-out couch/living room area, and in the middle is a gorgeous bathroom with a free-standing tub and spa shower. It was perfect for a family of 4 and felt like we had our own room separate from the girls. The design choices were clean and minimalist, very Scandinavian, but I love the pop of color of the velvet couch in the living room. The bed was very comfy, and it felt as if we were staying in a chic loft apartment in the sky.
THE FOOD
The hotel does not have a restaurant, but they do offer complimentary breakfast delivered to your room each morning. You just need to let them know the day before by choosing from their menu and leaving it with the reception. They also provide a breakfast spread in the common area if you forget to order ahead. If you fly in late, as we did, you can email the hotel with your breakfast request so it’s ready for you in the morning. Our breakfast arrived both mornings at our requested time, not a minute later. Exceptional service. It’s a continental breakfast, so there's not much to it, but the food in Iceland is always so fresh, so it was still nice to have something healthy to start the day. Our breakfast consisted of hard-boiled eggs, yogurts, and cereals, the freshest pastries and breads, and juices. There is a deli menu where you can request some deli meats and cheeses. Because it’s in an area surrounded by offices, there are many restaurants in the building and nearby, so finding food at other times of the day was not an issue.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
As mentioned, Tower Suites Reykjavik is in a more financial part of Reykjavik, so in the direct vicinity, there’s not much other than office buildings and restaurants, but a short walk will lead you closer to the city center, which is enjoyable to explore. Right across the way is the Sculpture and Shore Walk, which runs along the water, and along it you will find many attractions, such as the Höfði Lighthouse and the Sun Voyager, as well as a stunning view of Esja mountain (which you can also see from your room). It’s a really beautiful walk and a great area to stroll around.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Tower Suites Reykjavik. It feels like you rented a luxury penthouse apartment, and the view from the suites is really a unique aspect. I’m not sure if there are other hotels in the city that offer floor-to-ceiling windows and 180-degree views. It’s definitely a sight to see.
